After the first half of 2026 has delivered some of the best cinema in years, we turn our sights to what’s coming in the future. Here’s our most anticipated releases of 2028:
• The Batman II (February 18, 2028) – Matt Reeves returns with Robert Pattinson back as the Dark Knight, joined by returning stars Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell, in this highly anticipated sequel expanding the grounded Gotham world.
• Tangled (live-action) (2028) – Disney’s live-action adaptation of the beloved animated classic is expected sometime in 2028, promising a fresh, fairy-tale take on Rapunzel’s story.
• House of the Dragon Season 4 (2028) – The final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel is set to conclude the Targaryen civil war storyline.
• Black Panther III (December 15, 2028) – Ryan Coogler returns to direct, with David Jonsson taking on the role of a grown T’Challa II as the new Black Panther, alongside Letitia Wright and Winston Duke.
• Ghost Rider (2028) – Ryan Gosling stars as the Spirit of Vengeance in this new MCU film directed by Shawn Levy, currently slotted for either May or July.
• Untitled MCU Film (most likely X-Men) (May 5 or July 28, 2028) – One of Marvel’s two open 2028 slots is widely expected to introduce the X-Men into the MCU.

• Gladys (September 8, 2028) – The Weapons spin-off focusing on Amy Madigan’s unforgettable Aunt Gladys character.
