Oscar noms are out, people! You can find ’em elsewhere, but all of my main picks are in there.
I’m a little sad about Leonardo DiCaprio being snubbed (particularly in favour of “meh” performances like Alan Arkin in “Argo”), as well as Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow getting ignored. “Les Miserables” managed to secure a Best Pic nom, as well, despite the mediocre reviews. As predicted, if you put Oscar friendly folks in period costumes, you’re gonna get a nomination, regardless of quality. I haven’t seen it yet, though, so maybe I’m in for a treat whenever I get around to watching it.
“Amour” got some surprising attention, with a nice Best Pic nom, as well as as Best Actress for Emmanuelle Riva. I’m going to have to see that one. Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s in the running for Best Supporting Actor, in one of the looser definitions of that category. Leo was my pick for that category until I realized that Phil’s titular role was considered “supporting”.
My picks, otherwise unchanged from before the nominations were announced:
Best Picture: “Zero Dark Thirty” (I’m leaning towards “Lincoln” now that Kathryn’s been snubbed)
Best Director: Spielberg.
Best Actor: Day-Lewis, natch.
Best Actress: Quvenzhane Wallis
Best Supporting Actor: Hoffman (due to miscategorization)
Best Supporting Actress: Hathaway

What’s the joke, Projectionist? Folks on Facebook often post an erroneous “future date” from the film “Back to the Future”. I predict that they’ll miss the actual one when it comes.
