“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is pretty good, not great. Easily my least favourite of the Middle Earth Peter Jackson movies, but still a worthy endeavour. I saw it in the fancy 48 frame/IMAX/3D etc, and I found the higher frame rate to be a little distracting, but maybe I need to get used to it. It has a weird, sorta “fast forward” vibe about it. The action sequences were lots of fun, especially the introductory sequence with the dwarves and Smaug, as well as the goblin standoff. Seeing Dame Edna as the Goblin King was also pretty nifty. Overall, I recommend it, but lower your expectations if you’re expecting something on par with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Also, I didn’t get a “Star Trek Into Darkness” preview OR trailer, so I felt a bit ripped off. This stung a little more since the theatre DID manage to show me SEVEN non-trailer advertisements. I can appreciate the need to generate revenue to keep tickets down, but since the IMAX tickets cost around eighteen bucks already, it seemed excessive to me.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? Are you familiar with this? Also, Doug’s poor decisions have some chuckle value.
