I finally saw “Dredd”. I saw it at a smaller theatre which didn’t offer 3D, but I didn’t really mind its absence. I wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s a very intense, very violent action flick, but it’s also got a tight story structure and a surprising level of character depth. Unfortunately, considering how it’s doing at the box office, you probably won’t have the opportunity to see it in theatres unless you act fast.

Yesterday, I had the chance to see “Looper”, another fantastic sci-fi film. Both offer an interesting look at the harsh urban life of the future, and both feature some pretty nifty, well-designed weapons. Dredd’s packing his signature “Lawgiver” handgun, which offers a range of voice-activated alternate ammunition. Joe in “Looper” carries a standard-issue “Blunderbuss”, which is accurate and deadly at short range, but useless outside it. You will probably have a couple of weeks to see “Looper”, so I recommend running out to see “Dredd” while you can. The antagonist, played by Lena Headey (known for several genre projects, most notably as Cersei Lannister in “Game of Thrones”), is wonderfully vile.

Also, I just watched “Clue”. I still love it, but it’s not quite as fantastic as I remember. It’s about sixty-five minutes of setup for an excellent third act (or rather, three alternate third acts).
