LIKIN’ you, is easy ’cause you LIKE my comic. Doo doo doo do do do.

Groundhog Day is upon us, and that reminds me of the classic Bill Murray movie, “Quick Change”.

Actually, “Groundhog Day” is a pretty nifty flick. The central premise is very original and the movie does a good job of exploring the ramifications of repeatedly living the same day, with no end in sight. We get to see Bill Murray’s weatherman character in different moods, depending on how many “cycles” he’s been through. We see him memorize daily routines,  develop new skills and experiment with altruism, selfishness and suicide. It plays with some very dark stuff for a mainstream comedy movie, and its imdb page tells me that the original screenplay was even darker.

Appropriately enough, it’s a movie I’m always glad to re-watch. It’s a very satisfying, very funny movie, and it’s got some great supporting performances from Chris Elliot and Steven Tobolowsky. Andie Macdowell’s pretty good, too. Thumbs up.
