So, my newly-acquired home theatre system has been getting a workout lately. I’m not watching many films, but I am watching some very cinematic television. “Sherlock” is back (in the UK, at least), and the series premiere “A Scandal in Belgravia” is definitely the best television of 2012 so far. That’s obviously not saying much right now, but I have a feeling that I’ll continue to hold this opinion until “Community” comes back from hiatus. Benedict Cumberbatch (also seen in “War Horse”, referenced above) is an absolutely pitch perfect modern Holmes. The new series drops in lots of little references tothe originalstories, and Watson’s blog is available online, with write-ups of all the mysteries that happen in between (and sometimes during) the episodes. It’s just amazing, and I can’t recommend it enough. I’m thrilled that Freeman is going to be our new Bilbo and that Cumberbatch will be voicing Smaug.
I’ve also jumped on the “Downton Abbey” bandwagon, which is now running the second series on PBS. It’s got a great tone, and the acting’s very strong. It’s also got Mrs. Gonagall and Harriet Jones, Prime Minister AKA Shaun’s mum in it, so check it out if only to see those two butt heads.
Google Led You Here: “Bruce Camp” I wish there was a summer getaway where the instructors taught you how to develop a sweet cleft chin and spout pithy, misogynist one-liners, but I can’t seem to find it onGoogle, either. I can still dream, though.
