A full schedule is making it difficult to arrange a good time to see “Star Trek Into Darkness”. I’ll have to remedy that soon. Also, I’m disappointed to learn that “The Great Gatsby” left most folks dissatisfied. A bit short today, but sleepiness is threatening to take over!

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? Really? OK. Karl Urban plays a lot of irascible guys in the future.

Yeah, they’re really starting work on a “Medieval Times” movie. So, I guess the elevator pitch would be something like “Knights, horses and swords that spark when they collide! Wheee!”. The types of properties that can be optioned is gradually widening. I’ll lay even money that we’ll see a movie based on a breakfast cereal within 10 years.

Many folks worldwide have already seen “Star Trek Into Darkness”, but bein’ a North American, I’ve got to wait until at least Wednesday. I’ll try to avoid spoilers until then, but it’ll be hard.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? The world presented by the Medieval Times experience is undermined constantly. The audience’s suspension of disbelief is repeatedly threatened. Whimsically, I propose that this aspect be transitioned into the film adaptation.

That first “Dungeons and Dragons” was a real pile of incoherent bullcrap. My loyalty to the roleplaying game forced me to attend a screening on opening weekend. Some part of me was convinced that it might be worthwhile, even though all evidence pointed to the contrary. It was a sloppy mess, made worse by terrible performances from everyone involved. I’m convinced that it shot down Thora Birch’s rising star.

But still, if you can, check it out. There’s amusement to be found in its terribleness.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? The original “D&D” movie was so terrible that Mindy repressed it. Now she’s mad that she remembers it.

“Iron Man 3″ is pretty darned spiffy! It wasn’t what I expected, though considering that it was a Shane Black “joint”, maybe I should have. It’s well acted and it doesn’t always repeat the formula of the Marvel flicks that came before it. All the returning players are in top form, but the new folks (Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall) all deliver solid performances, as well. It seems like North America really dug it, too, since it pulled in $175M in its opening weekend. That means that RDJ is in a pretty sweet position for his ongoing salary negotiations.

I assume he’ll be returning for “Avengers 2″. I don’t like the idea of re-casting him. It worked out very well for the Hulk, but Downey’s take on Tony Stark is what ignited the whole Marvel cinematic universe. Give the man what he wants, he’s earned it.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? Robert Downey Jr. is in a strong position to negotiate for future Disney flicks. He’s being offered the riches depicted in the intellectual property owned by the company (as well as knowledge from the preserved head of Walt Disney himself).

It’s May, hooray! And with it comes compelling reasons to visit the movie theatre. To cinemagoers, summer has already arrived. “Iron Man 3″ is startin’ us off on Friday and soon we’ll be able to enjoy “Star Trek Into Darkness”. Strangely, both of these flicks will have been enjoyed overseas before we get to check ‘em out in North America, so I’ll have to be vigilant about avoiding spoilers.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? No joke, just a simple message of hope.

This doesn’t have anything to do with movies (nor did my last one, actually). Apologies about that. I’ve been annoyed about the growing trend of chopping television seasons in half, so I thought I’d doodle about it.

With regard to flicks, everybody’s excited about “Iron Man 3″. Now that the rest of the world has had a chance to enjoy it, North American theatres are ready for some awesome suit action. Reviews are strong and word of mouth is positive, so I’m going to go ahead and get my hopes up.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? Why must you keep asking me that? I don’t know. The guy in the red suit’s proposal sounds ludicrous, but it seems to be the model that networks are starting to follow. So, that’s kind of unexpected, so that’s sorta of funny, right?

Alright, that had nothing to do with movies, but I’m getting sick of proper sidewalk etiquette being ignored. Don’t get me started on elevators and subways. Sheesh.

“Iron Man 3″ comes out soon! I entered a few online contests to win advance tickets, but I don’t think it panned out. I’ll have to watch it on opening night like a sucker. A sucker! Early reports suggest that it’s a lot of fun. I’ll be happy with anything better than “Iron Man 2″, to be honest.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? I guess the meta-joke is that I’m willing to spend hours drawing a doodle about a pretty minor pedestrian inconvenience.

“Iron Man 3″ is coming up soon, so I’m getting excited. Reviews are starting to stream in, but I’m doing my best to avoid them. Something that’s been featured in a lot of the press materials has been the wide range of suits that Tony will have on hand. Apparently, he’s been spending his downtime working on his wardrobe, so we may be seeing some fancy new outfits designed for specific purposes. Fun!

What’s the Joke, Projectionist: Tony’s obsession with crafting super-suits is exaggerated for comic effect.

I haven’t set foot in a movie theatre in an embarrassingly long time. There just hasn’t been anything in the cinemas that seemed worthy of the cash and my time, so I’ve been catching up on some DVDs here and there. There’s also some amazing television on right now, like “Archer”, “Game of Thrones”, “Doctor Who”, etc.

The “Man of Steel” and “Iron Man 3″ trailers offer some hope for the theatres. I can’t wait to see what the newly-forming DC Cinematic Universe and well-established Marvel Cinematic Universe have to offer next.

What’s the Joke, Projectionist? Times are rough at the cinema, so trailers seem to be the only thing worth watchin’.

I still dig Burton’s “Batman”. Keaton’s great as Batman, and Nicholson’s Joker is an entirely different beast from Ledger’s, though just as amazing in a lot of ways. It’s a little heavy on the Burton-style “dark fairytale” elements for my tastes, but the performances are great, and most of the design elements are pretty special. Also, Robert Wuhl always feels like he wandered into the wrong movie. Overall, solid.

“Oblivion” is coming out this weekend. I’m vaguely interested, so I may check it out.
